Texture is not a separate product. Our Classic, Pure and Venetian coatings are the same material in the bucket — the finish comes from how they are troweled onto the wall. The sixteen textures below are all achieved with technique, which means any of them can be had in any of our colors.
Tobias Green is a hand-troweled material, applied by a professional plastering contractor over most primed common building substrates. Two coats are recommended, and the material sets in 60-90 minutes. A five-gallon bucket covers roughly 350 square feet in a single coat.
Stainless steel trowel, Chrome trowel, Plastic trowel, Contractor's knife, Hopper. The trowel does most of the work — a stainless or chrome blade burnishes toward a polished Venetian finish, while a plastic trowel and knife open up the heavier, more broken textures.
The material can also be machine applied through a hopper, which is how larger commercial areas are covered before the surface is worked by hand.
Any texture can be left natural, or burnished and waxed by the applicator — Varese below is shown waxed. Wax is an application technique rather than a product we supply. Sealing is available with AFM Safecoat Polyureaseal.
Interior walls and ceilings, over most primed substrates and architectural accents. Not suitable for exterior, shower stalls, wallpaper, extreme heat (stoves, fireplaces, hoods), semi-gloss/high-gloss painted surfaces.
Each texture is photographed over one of our colors so you can see the surface clearly. The color underneath each swatch is only the one it was shot in — every texture is available in any color, and in custom matches.
Four videos follow the material from primed substrate through base coat, texture pass and final burnish. Product data sheets and the three-part CSI specification sit alongside them. If you are specifying a finish and are not sure which technique suits the space, tell us about the project and we will advise.
Texture is easiest to judge in person. Every board in the kit is real, hand-troweled Tobias Green, so you can see and feel the surface before choosing a finish.
