Tobias Green is a hand-troweled material. The four videos below follow a wall from the primed substrate through the base coat, the texture pass and the final burnish — the same sequence that produces every finish in our texture range.
Two coats are recommended. The material sets in 60-90 minutes, which is the window the texture has to be worked in, and a five-gallon bucket covers roughly 350 square feet per coat.
An overview of how Tobias Green is mixed, loaded and carried to the wall, and what a finished surface should look like before the next coat goes on.
Laying the base coat. Working the material onto a primed substrate and getting an even first pass before any texture is introduced.
Building the texture. How trowel angle, pressure and timing against the 60-90 minute set produce the different named finishes.
Finishing and burnishing. Finishing the surface, and where burnishing or sealer come in once the plaster has set.
Tobias Green is applied by a professional plastering contractor over most primed common building substrates. It is not suitable for exterior, shower stalls, wallpaper, extreme heat (stoves, fireplaces, hoods), semi-gloss/high-gloss painted surfaces. Full tool lists, coverage figures and the three-part CSI specification are on the product information page.
Plaster reads differently in every room. The sample kit puts four colors, hand-troweled on board, in your hands so you can judge color and texture in your own light. We confirm your kit with you before it ships.
